  • What Is Combined Heat and Power (CHP) ?

Combined heat and power (CHP) is an efficient and clean approach to generating electric power and useful thermal energy from a single fuel source.

A CHP unit recaptures the wasted energy from a generator’s hot exhaust and engine cooling systems and re-purposes it into heat for industrial processes, hot water, space heating and even cooling and dehumidification.

As a form of Distributed Generation (DG), CHP’s inherent high efficiency and elimination of transmission losses from a traditional central power plant results in reduced primary energy use and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Thanks to the effective utilization of “waste heat” through the combined production of heat and power, up to an additional 40% of the energy contained in the fuel is saved, compared to the separate production of heat and power.

Our Total Power Sudbury team recently joined up with Sudbury’s Kicx 91.7, Ramakko’s Source for Adventure, the City of Sudbury Fire Department, the Sudbury Regional Police and Legend Boats to help collect six tons of non perishable food items for Sudbury’s Elgin Street Mission.
The fundraiser, held on Friday June 16th, featured our Total Power Sudbury branch manager’s own band, “Northbound”, who performed a few favorite country songs on a brand new pontoon boat that served as a stage.
